I'm getting sick and tired of Outlook trying to be
my "daddy" and decide which attachments I should or
shouldn't be able to access. Is there anything I can do
other than dump Outlook in the trash and use a real e-mail
program instead?

You can search google.groups.com for any of the several thousand other
inquiries exactly like yours or you can go to slipstick systems and read
this page:

You are, of course, correct Milly that there are thousands (million?) of
questions on this annoying feature. I hope MS takes note and gives us a
choice in future versions. I have used OL since 97 and I am still surprised
at how many add-ons are necessary because MS left them out. I'm thinking
about this one, an attachment handler and so on. It's a great PIM but it
could be a lot better if MS would take care of some of these annoyances.

should be helpful.

It was, thank you. While I wouldn't dream of telling
Microsoft how to run their business, wouldn't it be a good
idea to include this information in the FAQ for Outlook?
Particularly if - as one of your fellow MVPs remarked -
it's been asked thousands of times?

This is the second time I've been screwed because I
trusted my data to Microsoft. The first - when they
decided Hotmail saved/sent items should expire - I really
couldn't complain about, since it's a free service and
they can make or change terms as they please. But it was
quite irritating to lose all my sent mail, particularly
without sufficient warning that it was coming so I could
do something about it.

And now I've had to scramble because Microsoft decided I
shouldn't be allowed access to the files attached to my
saved mail.

It will be a cold day in Hell before I trust Microsoft
again. I've traditionally been on Microsoft's side in
their legal battles, but my patience is wearing quite thin.

Anyway, thanks again for the info. I wound up using Ken
Slovak's Attachment Options, which I highly recommend and
will be sending a very reasonable ten-dollar donation for
later today.
