My son is learning PowerPoint at school and doing a small presentation
for classwork. When he chooses *Save As* the dialog box will not pop
up for him to save his work. His teacher is clueless as it's only
happening on one computer. Any ideas what is causing this?
Thanks! All help is GREATLY appreciated!

If the teacher could provide us with a little more information as to the version
of PowerPoint, the operating system for the computer and if they are operating
from a network. In the mean time you might want to pass the following on to your
sons teacher.

Find and Delete PowerPoint's PCB file

As a workaround, what happens if he chooses Save? The first time he chooses
that in an as-yet unsaved presentation, he'll get the Save As dialog box.

I've no idea why this might be happening, but it might be worth suggesting that
the teacher reset the menus. View, Toolbars, Customize, click the Toolbars tab
and click Reset

Thank you both for replying! He doesn't get the dialog box when
choosing *Save* either. The operating system is Windows XP
Professional. The PowerPoint version is 2002. And the Laptops are
networked to a main server but each Laptop is freestanding. I hope
this helps you help me :O)

I've seen posts here about various dialog boxes not showing up when they
should, and it's usually permissions/profile-related. That means the
school's IT staff will probably need to fix this.

The following is from an old post -- maybe this will resolve the
problem. PPT 2002/Office XP will have a 10 instead of an 8 in the
registry key.

This resolved another issue with slide finder dialog (insert/slides from
file) not showing up for some users. No idea if it will help here or
not, but it sure won't hurt to try. Be sure to
back up the registry before trying this!

Click Start, Run, Regedt32, OK
Allow full control to users of the following keys:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
Security - Permissions - check "Allow inheritable permissions" - Allow
full control to all users.

I think Echo may be right ... it could be a rights issue, and IT will probably need
to get involved. But in the meanwhile, try Help, Detect and Repair
