Hi,

Click start/run, type compmgmt.msc and click ok, does this open your admin
tools? While you are in there, click on services, scroll down to the
Automatic Updates service and try restarting it.

Nutcase,

I have a similar problem. I tried compmgmt.msc and still can't run the
utilities. Once I try to run defrag or other computer mgt tools, the screen
pops up and then closes. In the end, the utility doesn't run.

It closes almost immediately? Before you have time to react? If you run
regedit or msconfig, does it do the same thing? If so, then you have a virus
interfering with system behavior.
