I had no problem with installation, but the game crashes upon starting it. I
have tried several things without success. I have tried running it XP
compatibility mode and as administrator, I have updated it with the latest
Sims 2 patch, I have updated my graphics card. Nothing works. I keep
getting a message that something is not DirectX9 compatable. I don't know if
you need to know this info, but my graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 6100.
Does anyone have any ideas? My 16 year old is driving me nuts trying to get
this game working!!!

Hello, try going to www.nvidia.com and downloading the drivers for your
graphics card these are probably the ones you want:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_158.24.html install them and see
if that improves things.

Sorry....gave it a try, but the game still won't work. Thanks anyway...

If you are getting a DirectX 9 error message, you may need to patch DirectX.
For some reason Vista, by default, does not come with some DirectX 9 files
that the game needs to run and when you install The Sims 2, it sees you have
DirectX 10 and does not fire off the DirectX 9 installer.

http://www.microsoft.com/directx

Click on the "Download latest DirectX" link near the bottom right
Click Continue to "Validate" your windows
Click Download and when the message comes up just click Run.

Follow the prompts, that should download any missing DirectX files and Sims
2 should startup.

If it doesn't reply with the error message, try to write down the specific
error message.

Good luck,
Andy

You need a better video card. You need at least (actualy better than) a
Nvidia GeForce 6200. Mine works fine with the 8600M GS (Laptop Card) i
recommend you get over a 7300 GT
