Do you have a Windows XP Installation CD for this computer, or is it a
"System Recovery" disk supplied by the computer manufacturer?

If is an actual installation CD then you could do a Repair Install as
per the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.html

Another option that might work. On a functioning computer that is
running Windows XP (any version) download Bart's PE Builder from
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ Use it to create a bootable Windows XP
CD.

Boot the problem machine with this CD and open a Command Prompt
window. Then enter the following command:
CHKDSK C: /R

If the attempted password cracking resulted in damaged data structures
on the hard drive then this should repair those and the computer will
then be bootable.

Good luck
