Ok, here's my probelem. I really hope that someone on here
can help me, because Microsoft and HP have both given me
NO help. Didnt they used to have online Tech support for
all windows users? Anyway Here's my Quarry.

I purchased a HP pavillian PC with Windows XP home
edition, Best Buy, the store I bought it at didnt give me
any discs, IE: Windows xp boot disc, Instalation
Cd..ect...ect...Nothing

I had a Virus on my PC, and in deleting and removing it I
may Have accidentally removed a file, or files needed to
run my system properly. I am flat broke and cannot afford
to have Best Buy fix a probelem(which could have been
avoided had they given me my discs)...Is there anyway I
can fix this, IE: somewhere I can download the missing
components, without having to pay yet again for a service
that should be free.

If anyone knows how to help me, or knows how I can get
actual customer assistance(not like the click-no-
help "tech support" found on the site) or just where I can
get the missing components?

if there is simply a way to Un-delete these files I would
also be most apreciatave to find out how.....probelem is I
dont have any idea what the names of the files are, or
even what kind of file should I even be looking for.

Even if you can 'get away' without the installation discs this time, what if
things go arwy months down the road? Have you asked the store again for the
discs that should have been included?

Even if you have to leave the jelly off your PBJs for a while to save up for
replacement discs from HP, that will pay in the long run.

Hi,HP pavillian's most likely(since you didn't give the
model #) have the XP setup files in a hidden partition go
to start>run and type in sfc /scannow (note there is a
space between the c and the forward slash, this will start
the system file checker program, if a windows file is
missing or corrupted it will access the hidden partition
for a replacent file.Good Luck

HP computers come with XP installed (OEM) and you don't
get disks. On my HP there is a D: drive that contains the
necessary files to get you back to where you were when you
first purchased the computer but you lose all changes and
installed programs including Microsoft updates. To reach
these files - when your computer boots the first screen
you see offers the choice of booting to XP (the default)
and System Recovery. Choose System Recovery.

If your problem is simply a missing file then you can use
someone elses XP CD to recover the corrupted/missing file
(BUT you can't use that CD to re-install XP). Place the
CD in the tray and go Start/Run and enter 'sfc /scannow'
(without the quotation marks).

you shouldn't need the cd on an hp machine because the registry is set to
scan OS files from the i386 folder on the hidden partition rather that cd
rom drive.
