I need a good database program!

I can't find a decent database program! I want something that's not overly
complicated (though not too simple), can handle Unicode, allows editable
forms (a la MS Access, which I used to use some time back), and that is just
a good darn program. I can't find this! Any help? I'm going nuts over this.

The upcoming version of OpenOffice will have an Access-like interface to do
stuff like that. You could download the snapshot build of 2.0 and try it
out already, but it will probably still contain a number of bugs.

You could also have a look at DBDesigner:

http://www.fabforce.net/dbdesigner4/

It gives you a nice interface for table design in MySQL databases, but I
don't think that it does forms...

At this moment, there are only 3 programs that fit the disciption help you,
but...

One is in German (Though not too complicated): WinDBF

There is also a Dutch program, Calles Adress2000 (but it IS in Dutch)

The last one is Kexi (There is a windows port for it) But I did not test it
yet, and it seems to be in a very early version ( 0.1 Beta 1)

Ah, so _that's_ the deal with OpenOffice. Well, it seems that this might be
my best choice at the moment. Thanks to all for your replies!

I know it isn't exactly free, but I was looking at Ability office database
the other day which you can get for £9.99 if you have any previous version
[I have several on magazines].

It's obviously written with compatibility with Access in mind, so shouldn't
be difficult to learn if you have ever used access. It doesn't have anything
like the complexity of access from a quick look, but actually has a very
similar structure which means it could be imported easily into access if you
ever wanted to.

I have scoured for a good freeware database but the offerings I have found
seem really basic. Open Office claims it will have a database too, but it
doesn't seem to be a database package on it's own - more a way to connect
it's other applications to databases.

Are you sure you need a database? Often time people waste a lot of time
with say Access when all they needed was a simple spreadsheet.

Yeah, for my needs, it'd be helpful. I'm finding Keynote is the best option
at the moment, but databases sure do have nice advantages sometimes ...
Thanks for checking.
