I would like to find a data base for recording archive records in either
Excel or Access formats. Ideally I need to record file names in boxes
therefore I need a cross-referencing spreadsheet to seach via different
methods.
 
Keeping them in a database will certainly allow better and easier searching
than in a spreadsheet, but it may not be as familiar to you as the
spreadsheet format.

I suggest a detailed lit of your requirements to see if we can find a
reasonably similar template.
