I am having problems maintaining an internet access with an i-mate PPC.
If the network disconnects, I am having problems reconnecting.

About 6 months ago, I wrote a network PPP handler for an Intermec device
using the serial port connected to the GPRS modem, which gave *very*
good results.

I am trying to do the same for an i-mate but cannot locate the serial
port COM number, baudrate etc.

I believe that the i-mate is similar to an O2 PPC it that helps.

Can anyone help? Many thanks.

IMate is a brand name - what specific model is it? If it is "Pocket PC Phone
Edition" which is the HTC Himalaya also known as the O2 XDA2 then the serial
port on the bottom of the device is COM1:. You wil probably also need to
disable the Settings > Connections > Beam > Receive all incoming beams
setting, as when we tried connecting our units to a wired GPS this would
block the COM port if enabled.

Peter,

Thanks very much for responding. The device is a indeed the HTC Himalaya
- the Identity says it is PH10B.

I created a small app that sent data to the COM Ports (ATZ) to see which
port replies (OK), to see where the GPRS modem is located. COM1 cannot
be opened, COM2 replies with GSM identification (at 115200 baud), but I
cant get it to respond to Hayes commands. All other ports either do not
respond or lock the unit requiring a soft reset. It looks like COM4 and
COM5 are Bluetooth related.

The ROM version is 1.72.00WWE (15-March-2004), Radio version 1.14.00.

Are you familiar with the device to give me any further pointers on
where I can communicate directly with the GPRS port?
