I just dl the anti spyware/adware that MS just started to offer free. After
doing so and rebooting, I can't get the XP firewall to load. I've tried the
MS suggestions to get it working manually without success......thanks

Turn off the auto scan feature of the MS anti-spyware - that might help.

Generally, if you have two scan devices, they can interfere if they
happen to scan the profiles stored in each other.

Nope, not it. You would think a company like MS would have this figured out.
I can't be the only person this happened to. I think the firewall came
with SP2; should I dl that again to try to get it back?...thanks

First, not that many people use the XP Firewall and of those who do,
probably not that many have installed Microsoft Antispyware. Assuming you
are talking about the new tool being tested, originally from Giant, it is a
beta and such issues are to be expected in a beta regardless of company. If
you are talking about the beta product, why then have you not gone to the
beta newsgroups to post this issue:
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?ICP=spyware&sLCID=us

I have also been wrestling with this issue. It took me forever to
finally find this thread recounting the same problem.

I have tried everything I can think of to get the firewall going again.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

BTW, I'm well aware of the pros (not many) and cons (many) of choosing
anything by MS, so all politics aside please :D ...
