....i cant find the windows 98 section, if there is one.
i wonder if anyone can help me- i have a computer with windows 98, and i
would like to re-install it (im selling the computer) but i would like to
wipe all of my information from it, so that its just plain, '98, with none of
my files or changes, just as it would have been when i bought it.

if anyone has any ideas how i could do this i'd be really grateful, thank you!

Format the partition before starting the new install.

In Dave Patrick <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

In addition to Dave's advice...

Might as well kill the drive first and make sure that you aren't giving away
your personal information as after a format the data could still be possibly
recovered.

To protect your personal information and data from any future users
of average skills, you should, at the very least, format the hard drive
and reinstall only the OS and those applications whose licenses are to
be included in the transfer. If you wish to do a more thorough job of
protecting your personal data, WipeDrive 2.2.1
(http://www.accessdata.com/Product07_Overview.htm?ProductNum=07) meets
U.S. DoD standards for securely cleaning surplus unclassified hard
drives, and could be used before formatting and reinstalling the OS and
applications.

thank you, all three of you.

this is probably a really basic question, but how do i foromat my hard
drive...?

thanks again

In those days "fdisk" is best.

Monkey.. start your computer.. Hit F8, F5, F10, F2.. What ever function
will get you into the basic startup.. Boot it into dos mode.. Once at the
c:\ type in 'fdisk". Delete all the partitions.

reboot with the orginal Win disc in the CD

reinstall..
