I know this is ipossible but...Sent items folder takes 3-5 DAYS to populate sent mail

Phil

We have Exchange 2003, Outlook 2003 on Windows 2003 servers

All users are installed the same, and everything uses cached mode to the
exchange server.

This one user sends emails, and most, not all, emails sent show up in 'Sent
Items' 3-5 days AFTER he sends the messages.
The 'not all' messages never show up.

The messages do get to the outgoing recipients almost immediately, so
Outlook is working, and only the Sent Items folder delays.

Anyone ever heard of this?

I don't even know how to look it up!

Make sure there isn't a modified view or filtered applied in the Sent Items
folder.
Do the messages show when you have Outlook configured without Cached Mode or
when you are using OWA? If so; you've got a damaged ost-file and Outlook
will need to recreate it. To do this rename your current ost-file to .old
when Outlook is closed.

How do you check for filters or modified views. Properties on SentItems
shows no strange views and filters in empty

Turning off cached mode still does not see the sent-items and he is not
using OST files

A search does not turn up any ost files on his disks

If user is using cache mode in Exchange then there has to be an .ost file.
OST files are hidden. When searching, search hidden files. Usually found in
c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\application
data\microsoft\outlook

Hi

Ok...

I did find the ost files. I renames them and it rebuilt them. Sent Items
still only come in up to 5 days ago.

I've checked filters, there are none.

I rebuilt a new profile, same problem when it was finally repopulated.

I turned off cached mode and restarted outlook, same problem

OWA shows the same Sent-items, today they are only showing through 9/21
(It is 9/27 right now).

Where can I go from here?

Is there a way to physically see what is on the server?

OWA is a direct link into your Exchange mailbox. It it doesn't show in OWA,
it's not on Exchange.

Well, tomorrow 9/28, I will go into his mailbox, and sent items will be
there through 9/22 (Not 9/21 like today).

It is reproducible, happens every day.

Then you have something filtering out the most recent so you can't see them,
but they're still there.

I am convinced it is an Outlook problem and has nothing to do with Exchange,
Cached Mode or the Ost folder. I agree with the others that this is a filter
or rule problem I would open the Sent Items folder choose "View" | "Arrange
By" and check the default settings. Choose "Current View" check defaults.
"Customize Current View" and check the default settings. If you don't know
the default settings, compare it to another Outlook Client. Then ensure that
there are no rules affecting the sent items folder; "Tools" | "Rules and
Alerts" . No rules, no problem. If there are rules, check for the deadly "
Quit Processing Further Rules" tick box. this can bollocks things up as well.

If all else fails, Detect and Repair, "discard customized settings and
restore default settings."

Good Luck

Cheers
