I installed windows XP home edition on my Old Dell which had all the
system it was suppose to need for XP now it hangs up during shutdown.
It seems like it is turning off it does all the normal shutdown stuff
and the screen even goes black but the computer is still running. I
have to manually push the botton on the computer to turn it off. I
didn't have this problem before windows XP. Anyone have an idea how to
fix this problem?

This driver from pace didn't work for my shutdown hangup. I still have
to push the off button. any other suggestions? thank you.

I found the answer to my problem and have pasted it below. thank you.
When Windows XP won't powerdown automatically, the APM/NT Legacy
Power Node may not be enabled. To enable this, right-click on the My
Computer icon, click Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | View.
Check the box labeled "Show Hidden Devices." If it's available on
your computer, there will be a red X on the APM/NT Legacy Node. Try
enabling it and see if this resolves the powerdown problem (Tip from
Terri Stratton). Or, to check the other side of the APM/ACPI coin, open
the Power Options applet in Control Panel. If there is an APM tab, make
sure the "Enable Advanced Power Management Support" box is checked.
