I insert a dvd into drive, laptop goes off

i bought a dvd burner external drive for my computer. i
loaded the express copy software then. And my laptop
started to go mad. everytime i try to insert a dvd into
drive, i see Interdvd starting, then laptop goes off. it
does not close but windows recovers and says there was a
serious error. it does the same when i try to close the dvd
or eject the dvd from drive.

please help if you got what's goin' on.
