I have windows xp pro...I want windows hom edition

I have the cd for home edition but when I try to delete
the current partition to install it it won't let me. (I
wanted to reformat my c: and install windows home
edition.) The next option it gave me was to install in the
same partition as pro but it said it recomended against
it. What should I do?

Read the read me file on the CD. Readme.htm.

Whiich clause 2.1 says
If your computer has a blank hard disk or your current operating
system isn't supported, you need to start your computer by using the
Windows XP Professional CD. Some newer CD-ROM drives can start the
installation from the CD and automatically run the Windows XP Setup
Wizard.

So what should I do hehe?

Stick your cd in the drive, set your bios to boot from it first, reboot and press any key when it asks you. Follow the wizard from there. Read your computer manual to see how to access the bios and set the boot order. You can't wipe partitions that windows is using. Therefore you can't boot from the hard drive. This will be different in future versions of windows.

Clean Installation
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
If you are installing using Windows XP Upgrade, insert qualifying
media in Step 4b.
Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

Enable or install firewall BEFORE connecting network cable.

Install ALL Critical Windows Updates:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.
