John

I have 2 systems

System 1 is a laptop, running XP and 1.6 gHz.
system2 is a Dual 1.7 Xeon running Win2k . A LOT faster system!

I would LIKE to run apps FROM the laptom ON the Dual Xeon system

I beleive Terminal services is what will allow this to happen. Is this
correct?

If so, how do I set this up? Do I need to purchase term services? I know
during install, it asks if I want to install Term Services , but I was
baffled when I tried to set this up.
Do I need a license? Any idea of the cost?

How much faster will it be? Will it be a lot faster? (I know this is very
arbitray.... Mainly using Excel and Outlook, but I DO notice major speed
differences when I run it on the dual system)

Thanks

Terminal services is not fast..... try laplink or carbon copy using
Ethernet. Or try sharing both drives to each other on Ethernet. Will be
quirky at first but you will get the hang of it eventually

I know in the past (YEARS AGO!) laplink or carbon copy only let you use the
application. I am trying to take advantage of the CPU on the big system.
Will the new version RUN the APP on the big system, and just use my laptop
as a "dumb terminal" so to speak?

Thanks

If the OS on the Dual Xeon is W2K Server, then this is possible
without any extra costs.
Install Terminal Services, choose Remote Administration mode.

This will give you a total of 2 concurrent connections and doesn't
need licensing at all. No need to install a licensing server or
buy TS CALs.

Difficult to say anything about speed. I can't imagine that you
gain very much when running Outlook, since most time spend in
Outlook is not CPU intensive, but spend at the keyboard.
Just try it out!

Terminal Services is pretty good staff. All you need is to install them in
Application Mode (you need to buy the license from Microsoft). Also, you can
use Administration mode (even if MS says that it not designed to run
apps) -- but Administration Mode does allow only two connections.
