I used to be able to publish changes to my web site. Now it tells me that the
pages have been published, but nothing happens. I have noticed that the
addresses for the local web site and the remote web site are the same. I am
sure they didn't use to be. Have I altered them by mistake? What should they
be?

If your local web is a disk based web its address would be a file path to the folder that
contains the web example:

C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\My Documents\My Web Sites\web_folder_name

If IIS based it would start with http:// like this: http://steve/web_folder_name

Your published site would use your domain name:
http://www.domain_name.com

Your local web folder can have any name you want, it does not have to match your domain
name.
( although mine do because it's easier to keep track of them )

So should my remote web site adress be my domain name? Or a disk based
address as you showed below?

If you are opening your local site in FP on your PC then your remote site would be your domain name in the form
http://www.domain_name.com/

If you are opening your local site in FP on your server (the domain as http://www.domain_name.com/) then your remote site would be
your PC based site location name in the form of say
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\My Documents\My Web Sites\web_folder_name
or http://localhost//webname/
