On my old pc, when I typed a web address into the address bar, I typed
"www.microsoft.com" and the browser would autofill the http://. When I got
my new pc, I have to type this manually. Dell can't figure it out and it is
about to drive me crazy. Any thoughts would be welcome.

i am having the same exact problem but,

eventually it will go to the page but it takes 3-4 minutes before it auto
completes the address. is there a refresh option in the reg that tells it
when to default to the default prefix?

i have checked all the settings u suggested and they were correct.

Hi,
First... Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> put a check by "Use inline
AutoComplete."
then (if necessary) see http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_5.htm#append
and possibly
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#extension

Hi,
You might be having a problem with AutoComplete- corruption in the History
folder. Use
the appropriate (for your OS) instructions at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm to delete your History folder.

Next, have you checked for malware? Work through the solutions (CWShredder,
Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.
