i have bought Nero and want to create dvd's of my home movies and stuff.

what i am stuck with is, what format to i have to store them on the cdr's?
is it MPG or can i store them in WMV (Window Media Player) or do i have to
have something else done before it goes to the cd?

the original files are in WMV that i have made up with Window Movie Maker
version 2

hope someone can help me with this.

thanks in advance

If you do not have a DVD burner drive you cannot create a DVD. What you can
create is a VCD or SVCD.... and in order to play them on a standalone DVD
player, the actual player itself has to has the capability to play them.

See www.dvdrhelp.com for details of standalone players and what they can and
cannot do.

You can fit about 55 minutes on a VCD - but the resolution will be lower
than that of the average VHS tape.

You can fit about 37 minutes on an SVCD and the resolution is higher than
that of a VHS tape, but much lower than that of a DVD.

If you get a DVD burner, you can fit just under 2 hours on it, and the
resolution (depending on the source!) will be that of a commercial DVD.

Use Nero to encode and burn to cdr as svcd or vcd if you want to watch
them on a dvd player. Or just burn the wmv's to a cd if you want to
store the files and watch on a pc.

ok i have just done this, i think.

i have created a vcd, and then opened up the WMV as the file to store on the
cdr. it has copied it, and when i insert it in my dvd drive on my pc it
does not read it, it ends up removing the drive from the drives list!. i
have to reset my pc to get back my cd/dvd drive. i have set my options to
open up the file with Power DVD, which is default anyway.

just one thing, you say that i have to get Nero to encode the file is this
done first then it saves a image file, am i on the right track? (no pun
intended!) and then i write this image file to the cdr.

hope that i have made myself clear.

There are various ways to do it but as you say, one way is to create an
image file. The good thing about having the original image file is that if
you decide to create anothe VCD of the same WMV, it's there, on your hard
drive already and you don't need to re-encode all over again.
