i have been running windows xp quite happily for the last few weeks, tonite
when i turned on my pc, i got the message "missing operating system", someone
told me i may have a corrupt or missing file. when i enter "f1" mode it shows
the operating system, , is there anywhere i can download this file or reapir
it, or do i have to toaly reinstall windows xp.
hope someone out there can help

in bios setup (f1 mode) I think there is a boot device priority setting
where you can select your hard disk as the primary boot device, check to
make sure your HD with your OS is set to primary boot device. see what
others say too (may be so simple...lol)
 
I've had this problem on some IBM machines that have been upgraded to XP,
ordinarily when you reboot it will find the OS and load as per normal.
I've changed the bios settings and confirmed it boots from IDE0 where the OS
is located (systems only have one hard drive so IDE settings are correct)
and it doesn't seem to have happened since.... of course that could be
because the system hasn't been powered down yet....
