I have a word document that I do not want other people to change with the exception of certain areas

You have to "section" your document, then protect the sections you don't
want them to change. If you want a new page you would insert a "Section
Break, Next page", if you want the section break to be on the same page you
would insert a "Section Break, Continuous". Here is a quick overview:

1. Place your cursor at the beginning of the area you want to "protect".
2. Click the "Insert" menu, select "Break", click "Section break",
"Continuous". Click "OK".
3. Place your cursor where you want to "unprotect" and repeat #2.
4. Repeat these steps to "section" your document.
5. Click the "Tools" menu, select "Protect document". On the dialog box,
click "Protect for forms" and select the sections you want protected. Click
"OK".

There you go. The following link goes into much more detail on how to
create a "form". be sure to check out the tutorials by Dian Chapman on this
page:

Okay. I'm really going to need help with this. I created a document
that contains forms and has email hyperlinks. When I protect the
document it prevents the hyperlinks from being active. Is there a way
to keep them active even if I protect the document?

Thanks in advance! :)
