I don't know what IP Address my machine has for my
network card aparently it doesn't display this. how do i
ping it to do that through MSDOS

How about trying IPCONFIG /ALL or IPCONFIG in command line...

Open XP's "Help and Support" and type: HEALTH , and hit enter.
Click on "Get information about your computer".
Then click on "View general system information about this computer".
Your IP Address will be shown under "General Computer Info".

click start then run, once the run window opens type
in "cmd" then hit enter that wil bring you to a dos
emulation prompt...then type in "ipconfig /all"
or "ipconfig" as stated below
