How do I change from XP to Windows 98 (or even 95),
without losing all my other software in the process?

Sometimes I think that if I see "Cannot Display This Video
Mode" one more time, I'll dump a bucket of water on this
lousy computer.

I have both 95 and 98 on CD, I just want to change without
losing everything else I have.

It is not possible to downgrade your operating system. If you want Windows
98 back you will have to backup your data, then format the hard drive and
reload from scratch.

Did you try changing the settings of your video display card to something
that will work? Do you have the latest video card driver installed?

Did you check your system for XP compatibility before installing XP? If not,
you should have because many older systems just will not run effectively
under XP. Otherwise, XP is a great OS and should not present any unsolvable
problems.

However, if you must go back to W98, you will have to do a clean install -
thus loosing any data you saved or programs you installed. To retrieve these
things, do a backup before installing W98.

Let me guess, all of your software is 6 - 10 years old and was written
before XP came out and you believed the MS hype about backward
compatibility? :)

You might even want to go back to DOS.

Why not run the system compatability app off the XP CD
and find out what hardware or software has issues with XP?

This way you will know what you need to upgrade to get
things working correctly.

Greetings --

If you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the
old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

If you upgraded from 98 to XP and chose the option to save the 98 system
then you can go back to 98 by uninstalling XP from Add/Remove Programs - but
you must have used this option!
