Donna, the best thing for you to do is go to a computer or book store and
ask the salesperson for a book to cover the basics on your computer. Or talk
to them and see if they give classes, many of the big chain computer stores
do. In order for us to help you need a basic understanding of the computer,
and I don't think you understand the basics. This is not intended as an
insult to your computer knowledge, I'm just trying to point you in the right
direction. Good luck! :-)

Try starting with the Start button--click on it, and then
see what programs are available. Click on each one to
see what is in each program--this should help you figure
out what is on your computer, and where it can be found.

Ask your local computer store if there is a computer club nearby. Then talk
to them about tutoring you.

Hello Donna, Why not ask the 12 year old kid next door!!!
Seriously though, depending on where you live, if you can
find someone to show you how, it wouldn't take but a few hours
to learn the basics!! So... ask the kid next door!!

....... is not even vaguely useful or helpful. There is nothing wrong with her
post, other than being a little broad, but she is obviously very frustrated and
needs help. And as an MVP, I would hope you would take a little more pride in
actually being helpful, not focusing on what you can spout from behind your
computer screen in your little dark room. It's exactly your post, not Donna's
post that is improper.

Now.... Donna.....
Bless you; I understand your frustration. We have all been there at some point,
and need help. I'll offer you two suggestions in addition to the very correct
ones already offered to buy a beginners book, and seek out local computer clubs.
One is to repost here, with very specific and specifically articulated
questions. Two - I'm certainly not God's gift to computers, but do make my
living with them, so if you'd like, feel free to email me at
(e-mail address removed) and I'll try to point you in the right direction on some of
your challenges.

I wish you luck either way....

Seconded -
an [MVP] should know better how difficult it can be for a beginner...

No, I don't like the dog either :-)
There are help files on your computer; click on 'Start' and you'll see 'Help
and Support' there. Also, there is a 'Tour Windows XP' program; click
'Start', 'All programs', then 'Accessories' and it's there in the list.

Hi Donna.

A few things you can try.

1. Check with your local community college or high school regarding
evening classes on using a computer.

2. Check the book stores for books intended for new computer users.
The "For Dummies" series are generally pretty good and are written in
plain language and there are other similar titles as well. Browse
through a few until you find one that seems to cover what you want to
know and presents it in a way that you can understand it.

3. Try posting specific questions about your problems to this
newsgroup. Try to describe exactly what is happening that you don't
want, or what it is that you want to do and can't make the computer do
it.

Good luck

Maybe she needs to get a Mac (I know this might incite the group here but it
is the truth. Macs are just easier to operate.)
