I got a "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile" message

I got a "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile" message.
I've managed to make a new User profile and imported all my files from the
original User profile....but I've been unable to find/import my emails
.....Outlook Express is acting as if it hasn't been used and there is nothing
in there...anyone any suggestions?....wil my original email files exist
somewhere....or has Outlook erased them?
 
Your emails will be stored in a hidden folder relating to the other profile
"C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{82117BC3-82A1-49AA-BC67-3A3A0ED74E51}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express" (the long number will be different)
they will be dbx files I believe. It's a while since I've done it but you
can import them I think or you may need to COPY the files to the similar
location under the new profile.

Thanks Neil...I tried to follow your advice.....went to C, Docs and Settings,
then looked in the old USER file and the newly ceated one (named differently,
STUART) and in neither is there a LOCAL SETTINGS file.
Also did a SEARCH for DBX files, but none showed.
When I created my new USER ( STUART), I moved all the files, except for
NTUSER DAT file, from USER to STUART (couldn't Copy and Paste as it was too
big)..
 
Are you showing hidden files & folders, you won't be able to see the folders
if you don't change the setting.

Once again..thanks Neil...I accessed the hidden files...went back into my
original USER file and followed your route and found the Inbox .dbx file,
copied it...went back and entered STUART, followed the route and pasted it .
....but when I opened Outlook , there were no emails there.
The size of the Inbox .dbx file in USER was only 139 kb, the same size as
the file I replaced in STUART...which makes me think...somehow...my emails
have gone.
 
Hmm,
Does seem a bit strange. Assuming you made a copy of the files in your new
profile before overwriting anything, have you tried replacing all the files
in the new folder with all the files in your original profile folder.?
Doing this should recover the emails I'm sure, it certainly wont remove them
as any changes are in the new profile & not the old one. I suppose it is
possible an error in the original profile could have tried to write default
files to the folder. Are you sure there aren't backup copies of the Inbox
etc in the original folder.

Neil..there were only 3 files in the old USER Outlook Express folder...the
Inbox, Outbox and Offline DBX files.
In the new STUART Outlook folder there are 13 files.
I've tried replacing them....there are no backup files in the old USER
Outlook folder...so I've no idea where the emails have gone ...and there were
a lot of them plus attatchments......I'm pretty resigned to saying goodbye to
them...a bit annoying I've just looked in my back up ( backed up before the
problem began)on an external hard drive ...and followed the route through
USER to the Outlook Express folder and in there are the same 3
files...Folders.dbx, 74 kb, Inbox.dbx, 139 kb and Offline.dbx, 10kb...I
copied and pasted the Inbox to STUART...but the emails weren't there.....so
maybe the emails are stored somewhere else...weird.
I do have Microsoft Outlook
 
In your original post I got the impression you were using Outlook Express,
if you used Outlook then the files will be saved as a PST file. Look for
"C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook" the file name should be outlook.pst (still hidden
files & folders). Look in the old user profile but you will need outlook to
import the "outlook.pst" file into Outlook run from the new user "stuart".

Neil...I followed your route and have managed to import my
emails......thanks...sorry about the confusion ..I really did think I was
using Outlook Express....can I blame it on senility?
