I go to open mail, and all I get is the border frame for the new email. I
can still see what is behind it. Can't read my mail. When I do a send/receive
get the old black Dos window. If I shut down the computer and reboot it all
goes away. Then I tried to delete my mail and it wouldn't let me.
Any help? frustrated and going back to using aol mail.

Are you using WM in Vista, or WLM in a particular OS? Is this a POP account
or a Hotmail type? I have to ask because the naming of current mail
applications is unreal !!

Please help those here to help you.

"going back to using aol mail"

No accounting for taste? :-)

I am using the Vista Windows Mail and a POP 3 account. Somewhere I read that
McAfee isn't compatible with the new mail. I deleted out Norton after the
trial run, and was using AVG, then decided on a trial of McAfee. When I went
to download MC it said not compatible with AVG and to delete AVG. I did. So
I just shut down my MC. and downloaded the free AVG Grisoft just now again.
I was using that on my old computer with XP. The mail seems to be working
fine with AVG scanning the mail. Time will tell. Funny, cause both are
running antivirus and I haven't had any error windows or DOS black screens
pop up.

So you appear to have sorted your problem dee?
Never use 2 AV applications on the same machine.

I would suggest that you remove AVG>restart>reinstall AVG and part way into
the set-up choose Custom Install, remove the check mark from mail scan. If
not your problems will return.

Norton and McAfee do not play nice with WM or OE.

Yes Mac, it seems to solved it. I have a relative having the same problem
with Vista and he runs McAfee. Going to uninstall it all, and redownload the
AVG only now that I have it figured out. I also noticed a post on Avast.
Going to check it out also. I have the mail scanning going on AVG now, and
the McAfee with antivirus going but with no mail scanning. Not sure if they
would work that way. But I am going to go in and shut down the MC completely
later tonight. Love this forum, think I will bookmark it. Thanks for your
help and to everyone who posted on here.
If you think that doing the mail only on AVG and doing the A Virus on McAfee
would work let me know. I can turn off the Anti in the AVG, and only the
mail in MC.

dee, this is not a Forum, it is a newsgroup. If you check down your Folder
list you will see an entry for MS Communities? This and 1000s of other
groups are available in WM, direct to your desktop.
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail will bring
you here.

I call all these groups forums. Just me. I will make sure I have it noted so
that I can get the updates and get here directly.
