After every reboot or start up, I get the prompt window that states
Restarting your computer is required". All software updates are successful
but this command or flag is set somewhere.

It happened quite awhile ago after updates but the updates were successful
and I can just cancel it and everything is fine until the next reboot.

Can anyone tell me how to disable this prompt? I do not know where it
resides.

Thank You

Thanks for the reply Mark.

I looked into the setting with Reg Edit and there was a line
SMRequiresRestart REG_SZ I removed this and rebooted. The window still
popped up with Restarting your computer is required. I also checked
RunOnceEx and there was nothing there.

Anymore suggestions?

Thank You

Appreciate the support again Mark.

I checked out the RunOnce in the Current User section and that was okay.

I went ahead and just ran through the reg looking for software / Microsoft /
windows / Current version / RunOnce and did not find anything else.

I am open for more suggestions on this!

Best Regards

AutoRuns for Windows v9.21:

The above app may help you locate a start up, but there are many to choose
from that originate from Microsoft. You may have to try uninstalling all
your recent Updates from MS to see if one of them has done that.

Thank You Mark.

I ran the Autoruns but did not find anything in reference to restarts. When
through the screen several times.

This pop up started quite awhile ago so I think backing out updates would
require a considerable amount of updates to be removed.

I guess I will just click the "NO" button each time the Comp is booted up.

Appreciate the support and Best Regards!

I've had the same problem ever since I allowed MS Updates to update Windows
Media Player to version 11.

If anyone finds an answer to this lingering problem I'd like to avoid the
annoyance.

The message box appears everytime I reboot. But once I click No, I am able
to use the PC OK and ignore the message.

"Restarting your computer is required.
The computer must be restarted before updating can continue. Would you like
to restart now?"

David,

I still have the issue. I did do a search and found a patch validation
software from Microsoft. I did find 2 patches that were trigured and then
implemented the Microsoft fix. All patches appear to be labeled as ok and
the issue is still there.

As you said, I click "No" and everything is fine. Been about a year and a
half now.

Thank You Mark! That stopped it from popping up.

I diasbled Adobe Updates from MSCONFIG.

I tried looking in the registry for something requesting a restart under
Adobe but did not find anything. Does this point to a particular final
solution?

By the way, the patch checker I mentioned earlier is qfecheck.exe I
downloaded this from Microsoft to verify validity of patches.

Best Regards
Mark

This might be a double post, the previous reply did not show up.

Thank You Mark! Disabling Adobe Update from startup (msconfig) has worked.
I do not get the request to Restart anymore.

I checked the registry under Adobe but could not find anything for restart.

Does this point to a final fix?

Thank You and Best Regards

I would like to add to this.

Had disabled Adobe Updater in msconfig startup. Didn't fix it.

Removed an Adobe Updater key @:

KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

This fixed the issue for me (well, the customer anyway).

I know that this thread is almost 2 years old, but others may, like me, still be looking for a solution to that pesky unnecessary prompt to restart your computer. It was likely due to an aborted Adobe update (Acrobat Pro in my case) but since many updates had taken place on the same day, I could not tell from which application update the problem came from until I stumbled upon this forum and saw Mark's suggestion to disable Adobe updater in msconfig. However, as Dysstatic points out, it doesn't fix the problem to do this, but at least it pointed me in the right direction.

Dysstatic solution worked for me. Here's the longer version for beginners like me:
- Go to Start, click on run and type regedit, clicked OK.
- In the tree on the left, find your way through this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- On the right hand side, there was indeed an AdobeUpdater6 key in my case. I deleted it, closed the registry editor and restarted my computer. Voilà!

Now if you experience the same problem described here by 4wheeln but are wiser and more sensible than me and don't want to mess with your registry, call your Adobe support team or IT support person. Tell them you suspect that your problem is due to an Adobe updater key. You can even give them the path above. They'll walk you through it or do it for you remotely; maybe for a fee, but at least safely.
