Hello
When someone sends me an invitation for remote assistance email invitation I never stay connected. NOTE: when I accept the invitation I am prompted for a password at the login screen. I enter password, following this it appears that I am connected for a time but as soon as I click on Take Control The Novice computer hangs then I am disconnected. I am behind a MS router with a built in firewall (UPnP port restricted NAT). I have persistent forwarded inbound port 3389 TCP - IP address (address stated on the broadband network utility screen - network status) 3389 set. I am not on a static ip address obtained automatically. Win XP Home firewall off. Allow remote assistance invitation to sent to this computer checked - under advanced allow comp to be controlled remotely and invitation open max 3 days
Novice is using WinXP Home with disabled firewall, AOL and ZoneAlarm but it is shut down. Understanding this is a security risk. Just tried every thing else. We have tried using win mess and msn mess or her on msn and me on win mess to connect as well, but we do not even establish a connect at all, that way.
Should mention, I have no prob connecting to other comp. using win mess and local. This person is in the UK and I am in Canada. If that means anything
Please help, at wits en
Thanks

What kind of connection is at the far end, ie. in the UK? Is it a DSL connection?

Do you both have UPnP enabled on your desktops? If not then...

Navigate to Network Connections (Start > My Network Places > click (on left panel) View network
connections).

Choose Advanced > Optional Networking Components...

Double click on Networking Services.

Check Universal Plug and Play and click OK.

Click Next and complete the Wizard.

Al,
I have now enabled UPnP as you suggested. Will make sure UK does as well.
The connection in the UK is DSL.

Hello
Still getting disconnected. I have enabled UPnP. UK computer re-formatted and re-installed Win (XP home). UK comp followed your directions to enable UPnP and setting was not there or could not find it. Now when I accept request for assistance I still connect view screen only status, but screen black do not see UK desktop. Click take control UK computer freezes and we get disconnected. When I send invite to UK comp. and I give permissions it works fine. I do not seem to have any trouble excepting invite and taking control of other machines in local area. Using Win Mess 5 on both machines. Email or going through Win Mess does not work, same thing happens. It use to work fine. We have connected on several occasion and now we can not. Nothing diff with my comp. All hardware on both comp still same. Both DSL connections.
Hoping extra info will be helpful.
Thanks
very frustrating
