When trying to exist Internet Explorer the only way out is
to exit by the 'end task, method (alt/cont/del). Clicking
on File/close does not work and clicking on the 'x' in the
upper righthand corner does not work.
I reverted back to version 5 and version 5 closed but
Express would not work. Reloaded i.e.6, sp.1 and the
closing problem returned.
What is the fix?

Hi Bill,

Have you tried running an online free virus scan?
See may it finds something hidden.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/
If it finds something, write it all down and go to Google
and search for a fix sheet from one of the AVP venders NAI
(Network Associates), or Fprot. Print the fix sheet and go
like by line to fix the problem. You will need to do
everything it says to get rid of an infection.

Then go to Google and search for "stinger", download it and
run it.
Then go to www.spychecker.com and get and AVP, a good
firewall (Zone Alarm), AdAware, SpyBot S&D. Download all and
install. First set up the AVP to run at least twice a week.
I run mine everyday and I have it set to catch anything that
shows up in email. The firewall is because computer have
over 65,000 backdoors called ports and the firewall helps
keep hackers out. AdAware is for Malware and Spyware. It is
for your privacy. There are many "data miners" out there
these days. SpyBot is great, but you need to learn how it
works.

Hope this is beneficial.

Bill,
There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite)

Download, install, *update* and run these two programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/

Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

Search for common parasites at http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/

If not caused by malware, consider disabling (for diagnostic purposes)
legitimate programs running in the background which might be interacting
with IE- security, antivirus, etc. You may have to uninstall then reinstall
a program.

Hope this helps,
Don
