Since been forced down the IE.8 route by automatic updates, I am now
constantly getting an audio prompt "To clear your cache in Internet
Explorer click on the tools icon on your toolbar.................."

This audio describes how to delete the cookies and history in Internet
Explorer.

It doesnt go away when you clear the history or cookies, but plays
every time I load IE8.

Cannot find an audio file in the history folders to support this
annoyance, or indeed in the windows sound schemes.

Anyone else experienced this?

Two things to know about Internet Explorer 8:

1. It is a High Priority update, not a Critical update. Therefore, it is
not installed automatically, even for users who configure Windows Update
to install updates automatically. In order to get IE 8, you have to
explicitly agree to the installation - twice.

2. Internet Explorer does not have audio prompting. At least, not the
version that comes directly from Microsoft. My guess is that you
(perhaps unwittingly) turned on Narrator in Accessibility Controls.

Nope, it is happening to me also. Very annoying.

It is definitely not related to Narrator since that uses the 'Sam' voice by default, and this is definitely a human being speaking.

In fact, it is this:

So I"m wondering if this has something to do with the Google toolbar?

Heck - I never experience a "forced" Internet Explorer 8 installation. On
my machines with Automatic Updates set to full - I had to agree to it. On
other machines, I had to choose it *and* agree to it. Did your system
administrator install it on all their machines - thus forcing it on you?

Internet Explorer doesn't natively have audio prompts that I know of... Did
you turn on some accessory (disability accessory in Windows) or install some
third party application?

Here is what solved this problem for me:

Go into internet explorer >tools >internet options > programs tab > manage add ons

find the addon under the Google group that is called Google Toolbar Notifier BHO and disable it.

OP was not saying that IE8 is a forced install, but just that Windows will nag and nag relentlessly, until the user, their will broken, will do anything to stop the incessant reminders.

Actually I quite like the improvements to IE in IE8, since it they were all basically ripoffs of Google Chrome, which I also quite like, except for its lack of plugin compatibility.
