I downloaded XP twice when I first set up my laptop. I just left it that way
for years but now I am having problems with one of the copies and would like
to remove it from my system. Does anyone have the fix? Needless to say I'm
not real computer savvy.

I have never heard of downloading Windows XP. Are you sure it is not on a
CD somewhere????

I have two installations of XP on the same partition

[[You reinstalled Windows XP on your computer thinking it would overwrite
the existing version of Windows XP and now there are two copies when you
boot up. Crap! What to do now? Not to worry, here's the solution.]]

Almost certainly he means "install," not "download." For some
reason I don't understand, the number of people who misuse the
word "download" this way seems to be growing by leaps and bounds.

Agreed, mucho!

If I'm not mistaken, you cannot install the same copy of XP on the same
partition more than once... If you're getting a promp when you start up
asking you what OS you'de like to boot from... Then you have it
installed on 2 different partitions. Use the Win XP boot CD to format
one of the partions. That what I did. Just make sure you don't let it
copy all teh files oce it formats. Just turn the computer off :D. Then
format the partition in Windows a second time.

You downloaded Windows XP? Sorry, we don't help thieves. Come back when you
have acquired Windows by legitimate means.

Get back on your meds, sicko.

Some people are ignorant. Ignore them bob.

Actually, it's quite easy to install 2 copies of XP to the same partition,
it's called a parallel install. It's quite handy for data recovery in a
system that can't boot to desktop, and you really want to recover data. Do a
parallel to get back to your desktop, backup your data, then format/clean.
The easiest way to fix an accidental parallel is to format and reinstall.
You can remove one install, but it can cause software pointer issues,
permissions issues, and usually requires editing the boot.ini (no big deal
if you know what you are doing)

Yeah seems I talk to people all the time who want to download their cd's to
their pc...it's just the newbie talking, they'll get over it ;)
