Hello,
I am producing my own web site in 7 different languages - I don't want
people to be able to print off certain translations - how do I make a web
page that cannot be printed or saved on someone's computer?

You can't It can "not" be done.

Hi, I really knew that anserw before you gave iut me but I was just hoping
there would be a miracle answer - is my best option a watermark? Or can this
also be taken out if they save the page?
thanks,

Watermark images is about all you can do.

Hi.

I used a program in the past "an HTML Encryter" which could disable the
print command in addition to save, right-click... etc. on any page. Sorry I
forgot its name but try to Google for html ecryption programs and I'm sure
you'll find a program to suit your need.

Best regards,
Riyadh

Which will NOT work. Nor will disabling Right Click.

If you do not want your pages printed, do not post them on the web.

See MANY previous messages about this on this discussion board.

I do hat to ask boring questions - howeveer I thought this discussion forum
was for people who had problems and were not computer experts - if you don't
like the question just don,t bother answering it.

It's not that it's a boring question; it just gets asked over and over, and
people get impatient with it. After all, if you have something you don't
want publicly available, the Internet is not exactly the place to put it.
:-)

I hope you didn't pay anything for that program, because all it does is make
ignorant people *feel* safe. It is about as effective at preventing people
from copying your content as putting a sign on your house that say "This
house proteced by HTML Encrypter" does to prevent burglars from breaking
into your home.

How do book authors prevent people from copying their book pages? Answer:
They don't. Hence, copyright laws.

Copyright laws do not prevent people from copying things. They give a means
of legal redress to their victims. If it was possible to prevent copying,
there would BE no copyright laws.

"Encyrption" can be de-crypted, for example by this little tool:

I am certainly not going to spend any money on programs - my problem of
protecting my work is not a big problem - just annoying that other lazy so
and so's will profit from my good work and not pay a thing for it. I suppose
that just the way the cookie crumbles!

I do hate to ask boring questions - however I thought this discussion forum
was for people who had problems and were not computer experts - if you don't
like the question just don,t bother answering it.

My first comment was directed primarily at Riyadh, who posted a
completely misleading response.

The balance was a response to your question, which is answered here
almost daily. This board is indeed for people who have problems and are
not computer experts. I for one, have had my questions answered almost
as often as I answer them.

However, it wouldn't hurt to review the messages on the board before
posting a question. You would have seen these responses and saved all
of us the trouble of responding.

Uh uh.

And if we could it would be pretty ugly

Paul,
I might be one of those people who asks questions without looking up the
messages. My problem is ... when I try to do a search within outlook
express, I never "ever" get any results. I could look for the word "the"
and it give me now results. What am I doing wrong. I'd be happy to save
others from repeating their answers, but I can't seem to find what I want.
In the web-interface version of this newsgroup, the search works, but I
don't like the way the rest of it works ... I can't see enough at a time for
it to suite my purposes.

I'd apprecate any instructions that you or others have on this cuz I'd be
happy to search first.

Thanks. Diana

The problem with news groups and subscribing to new news groups
is that OE only downloads the most recent 300 message headers.

When you search a newsgroup, OE only searches those messages that have been downloaded to
your machine,
it does not search the server.

To download "older" postings you have to click the "get next headers" icon on the toolbar
and it will download the "next oldest" 300 messages.

Since this news group server routinely maintains 40 to 50 thousand messages it's almost
impossible to download and search them all.

However, you can search this same newsgroup on Google and it goes back several years.

I just received a reply / question to a posting I had made at annoyances.org in
November of 2001.

You can set OE to download more than 300 messages.
