I have scanned Trend Micro that found and cleaned some virus or so they
said.
The problem is that after that the quick launch of IE, OE and Net connection
disappeared from the task bar.

Also when I went to run/msconfig/start-up I found lots of things checked
(ivh.exe, smsc, isrv, winsys and more) but I don't have time to uncheck them
as the window closes suddenly. (Windows XP pro)

I also had that thing that closes the pc and restarts it in 60sec(Authority
something) so I suppose that I still have a virus.

What can I do? One thing is coming after another since Thursday and I don't
know what to do.

Many Thanks for any help,

Sonja

I also have minutes to check email and post here because although I'm still
connected the "send/receive" says that my connection has failed.

I think that is a known virus, but I can't find info on it
at the moment and can 't recall its name. You -might- be ab
le to accesss symantec for an online scan with Hyperterminal
if you can get it working. In other words, use
Hyperterminal instead of IE. It's harder to use, but
something to try in case no one more knowledgeable comes
along, which I think they will.

First thing I'd try would be a Restore (Start; Programs;
accessories; system tools; System Retore. Pick a date
offered that is prior to the problems starting.

If you can't get Restore to work, try restoring from Safe
Mode.

Tto start in Safe Mode - press F8 during the initial boot &
after the POST beep.

You won't lose any data useing Restore.

Next I guess, unless someone comes with the easy answer, I'd
try a Repair; you don't lose any data you created, but you
do have to redo your Updates.

If you can't get connected to the internet, download "Stinger"
to a floppy on another computer and run it.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

If you can get connected to the internet,
run at least one of these free online virus scan programs,

RAV
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

Panda:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

BitDefender
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/license.php

I would download and run Ad-Aware, (free) be sure to
update it after you install it.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

You should also run Spybot Search and Destroy, (free)
http://www.safer-networking.org

After you are sure the machine is clean download
and install SpywareBlaster(free) to help keep it that way

Good Luck,

Yes, you still have a virus.

If FAT32 this is probably relatively easy, in that you can boot with a DOS
boot disk set containing, eg F-Prot for DOS go here:
http://home.epix.net/~artnpeg/ and scroll down to where it says "Art's
F-Prot DOS interface, updater and emergency program for Win 9x/ME".

If NTFS options are limited. Try Safe Mode (F8 before the XP splash screen
starts).

BTW you should always take note of what virus your AV reports.
