I'm positive there is on;y one CPU in that case - I
installed it myself... Windows thinks otherwise... It
detects 2 Intel P4 3.0 Ghz w/HT chips. I can see them in
device manager and in task manager. I'm running on a
ASUS P4C800-E Motherboard with thi AI Overclocking
engaged. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That's the way HyperThreading(HT) works. It makes it work as if there were 2 processors, even
though there is physically one.

Hyperthreading creates two "logical" CPUs for every
physical processor.

The OS is detecting the two logical CPUs since your
processor has hyperthreading turned on.

You're fine :-)

Dude

Think about what HT stands for.

Hyper-Threading creates 2 logical, or virtual, processors which then share
the processing. That's why you see two processors in device manager when
only one physical processor is installed.

Hope that helps
Pete

This is a chip with 'hyperthreading' technology, which is a single chip
but behaves (largely) as two independent processors
