and I can't shake it. My husband got rid of it. My applications are not
running properly and Internet Explorer only occasionally works. I'm not
computer savvy, is there anything I can do to restore my computer without
wiping it clean? Any help at all (in laymen's terms ;)) would be very much
appreciated!

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

the only way I have found to get rid of it is to download and run the free
Malwarebytes Anti Malware program after updating it and let it remove all of
the rogue antiviruses, which antivirus 2009 is, and then it will make your
system usable so you can clean it further. Boot to safe mode and go inside
c:\windows\system32 folder and select details and then sort by date and you
will see one or more executables with lph... or something like that and the
other one starts with r. Delete these and go to regedit and delete any
instances of this executables in Local
machine>software>microsoft>windows>current version>run. I also used a good
cleanup program to delete all temp files. Also remove from all users startup
programs these executables if there. this has pretty much gotten rid of this
rogue antivirus for me but I also did upgraded antivirus scans as well as a
couple of different spyware/adware programs. Hope this helps.

Scott,

This ever-evolving rogue has been appearing with changing co-infectors. So
that is why I almost always recommend that those infected get guided help at
an anti-malware forum.

While MBAM & Smitfraudfix are excellent tools, often other fixes & cleanups
have had to be done as well.
