If I get another email from a dumb virus checker, or worse, a dumb
sysadmin, telling me that email I sent them had a virus attached, I'm
going to stuff it up their arse...

Whether it's a programmer who thinks he/she's being cute by replying
to the source address, or anyone who thinks they're doing a service by
replying with a nice info-message... 'Cmon, IT'S A VIRUS -- IT SPOOFS
THE RETURN ADDRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get a clue...

(Please excuse the 'burp' when replying)

OK, do it.

If you get one of these, just write to their postmaster, CIO (or even
CEO <g>) and politely ask him to read this:

Thank you for that, Gabby. It goes to show that there's a wide range
of talents serving IT. With 15 yrs experience, I'm going on three
years suffering the high tech demise, because Dick CEO thinks
high-school grad Opie, who clicks on the install button and leaves it
at that, will searve him better at $25K/year.

Bah, you're the idiot. The notifications exist for a very good reason. You
should take your anger out on the virus author.

What useful purpose do they serve when being sent to the wrong address?

Damned green haired teenager(s)!

??? and exactly what purpose do the hundereds of emails I have deleted
today from my server sent from such "misconfigured" systems to users
who do not and have not ever been on this server server to make a
person complaining rightly an idiot ???

I am not going to point fingers, or get into a mess with people I dont
know, but it seems to me that anyone who spreads the message that ALL
of my friends who own, manage, work for, etc. ISP or other server
farms are in agreement on is not an idiot, but rather should be
running for president as they probably have more brain cells rubbing
together than many of the current crop.

In point of fact MILLIONS of inappropriate email messages are deleted,
ignored, etc. daily because people who configure their servers and
virus protection dont stop to think about the results of their actions
(and probably those same people have green hair, etc...) The very
first time some ding-wad forged an email address that particular
method should have been removed by any thinking email admin so it
would not lead to the massive DOS that many email servers are
experiencing.

.... ok, enough of my soap box <grin> "NEXT!!"
