Thanks, John, that is really useful. I must have deleted my recycle bin half
a dozen times and kicked myself, and this solves a problem which must rank
as one of Vista's most FAQs, while http://www.winhelponline.com/ is a good
link in its own right. Doug
 
Now, that's funny. Because he wanted someone like you to post a question
like that! It worked. You fell right into his trap :-)

ha ha funny guy...I deleted my recycle bin because it was not refreshing when
I emptied it...I thought this forum was for help...not wise guys!

Right-click on the Desktop, click Personalize, and in the left pane, click
Change desktop icons. In the Desktop Icon Settings dialog, enable the
Recycle Bin checkbox. Click OK. See also:

You probably did not delete it, just stopped it from displaying on your
desktop.

Right click on blank area of desktop.
select Personalize
select 'Change desktop icons' (in left pane)
set the check box for Recycle Bin
