Please someone help me

My CD-DVD drive was not working, so i followed the troubleshooting advise and uninstalled it from device manager. However once i did that and tried to follow the other instructions of adding it back in, the drive wasn't showing up on Adding new Hardware. Therefore my drive is not on my computer and I can't use it for anything, its not showing up at all on the Device manager. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this? I'm using WIndows XP!!!

Justin, if you went inside the case, make sure that the drive is hooked up
properly. Red stripe on ribbon cable to Pin 1 on both drive and motherboard
and jumper set to Master or Slave whichever appropriate. WinXP should see
it on your next startup as long as it's
connected correctly.
