I changed the language, why is Excel opening in English UK still?

Excel is opening files in English (UK) date format and not in English (US)
format. I have changed the default setting in Office to English US.

Do I need to remove and reinstall Office?

No:

Excel is just keeping cells in the same format as they were created.

New cells should be formatted as you wish. Remember you can always format
38776 as either d/m/yyy or m/d/yyy yourself.

I always recommend 28 February 2006. People (even an ocean apart) will
understand you.

Hello:

Thank you for the reply. The funny thing is, I can't change the format of
the cells.

I am dowloading a .csv file of our customers that shows their signup date
and close date. I am trying to subtract the close date from the signup date
to determine the number of days of service. After downloading the file and
running the formula, some rows work others don't. Some dates are mm/dd/yy
hr:sc, some are mm/dd/yy; some are justified left, some right. I can
highlight the values and try to change the format to mm/dd/yy but it won't.
When I look at some of the clients with dates like 4/2/05 -- April 2, 2005,
our customer records show February 4, 2005 as the signup date.

The kicker is that if I download the file to MS Excel 2000 9.0.3821 SR-1 on
an ME machine, the dates are correct mm/dd/yy hr:sc and the math works.

I originally installed Office with English UK as the default language. It
seems that even though, I have changed the language to English US, the
program is defaulting to UK.

If I open any Excel file, right click on a filled cell, and try to format
the cell for a date, the default language is English UK.

Any thoughts?

JM
