I have just brought a new computer abd it is windows 2000.
before this i had a compaq that had an xp disc. The man
told me when brought the disc og him that i only had to
put it into the disk drive and it will load up. It started
to get some where then it asked me for a registration
number and told me where about it would be. I typed it i
but it just said invalid, Invalid, Invalid and so on. I
tried every number that was on the box but none of them
worked what should i do.

Windows 2000 is better than XP anyway IMHO . . . BUT . . .

If the disc is an XP disc it will need the KEY CODE . . . if it was made by
Compaq, for your Compaq, there is a possibility that it is not an official
copy of XP, but a restoration disc for your Compaq . . . still . . .
the code you are looking for should have 5 sets of 5 numbers and letters . .
.. sort of like

1A2BC-1A2BC-1A2BC-1A2BC-1A2BC

Look for a set of numbers like that and put it in . . . if it doesn't work,
you could try calling Compaq (if the disc is from them), but most likely
they'll say something like the disc was sold to work with the Compaq only .
.. .

Good luck . . .

P.S. - A true upgrade CD to XP Home is something like $99

Yr compaq winxp disk will likely only work on the origonal compaq.
In any case as its an OEM copy yr not licenced to use it on any other sys
