If you have don't have Direct CD or some other packet writing software
installed, you can neither read packet written disks nor can you write you
to them and that would have been the case in 98SE as well.

I use Word Perfect 8 for my work and back up all of my files to disk
(CD-RW). When I try saving any files to disk on XP, I keep getting an
access denied, you do not have rights to do this message. On win 98 SE, I
just backed up to the disk drive and had no problems. Is there a secret
that I'm missing to do it here?!

EEK!!! XP is going to take A LOT of adjusting!! Is it better once you're
used to it?!... :-(

A packet written disk is formatted with the packet writing software (Do not
use Windows format command to format a CD) for the purpose of being able to
drag and drop file directly to disk. This same function allows you to save
directly to disk.

My guess is, CD Writing Wizard is disk mastering software. No need to
format but it creates a CD the same way you create an audio or music CD in
sessions and that doesn't allow for dragging and dropping or saving directly
to disk.

I have CD Writing Wizard (at least I think that would be the name). It's
what came with the computer. It let me write to one new/unused CD-RW disk
and now I can't do anything else with it... This is a combo DVD-RW and
CD-RW driver...

P.S. What is a packet written disk?

Thanks Michael. Does it matter which version of Easy CD Creator I get in
order to x-fer files from my old computer (with windows 98 SE) to this one
with XP and to be able to save files to disk? It seems to me like it should
have come with the computer, but I can't find it... This XP has me sweating
big time. I hope that some day it will actually be my friend... :-) It
used to be so easy to x-fer files from computer to computer...

Yes, that should do the trick. The version on your other PC is essentially
a lite version, also an older version than what is currently available. I
believe the current version is version 6. Just be sure when you install it
the Direct CD component is installed as well.

I think that's what I mean. I'm not real savvy when it comes to technical
issues. I just checked my other computer, and what's on that one is HP CD
Writer 9100 with adaptec Direct CD Reader. So, if I buy the latest and
greatest version of Easy CD Creator, it will read files saved to disk in the
HP drive? Is that correct? Again, thank you so much for your help and
patience! :-)
