I can't receive email

In Windows Mail I get this error

Account: 'mail.cableone.net', Server: 'mail.cableone.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR Cannot establish SSL with POP server 24.116.0.226:110,
SSL_connect error 10054', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

I installed a new virus protection (avast)> I tried to uninstall my Norton
Internet Security, but it owuld not completely uninstall till I went to the
norton site.

I double checked my avast settigs to ensure I could check my email, but
still no luck. Any suggestions?
 
Make sure you have used the Norton special removal utility:

Your Avast! antivirus was probably installed with its default install option,
which installs an email scanning module. Just disabling its email scanning
is not a sufficient remedy. Uninstall Avast!, then reinstall, but select 'custom'
install, which then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email
scanning module.
