I can't quit the program!!

Whenever I run processor intensive software (read: games) I exit all programs
running in the background. But when I exit Defender by using the option in
the question mark pull down menu I find that it still runs scheduled scans
afterwards without me restarting the program or even Windows for that matter.
What gives? Is it even possible to exit the program, or is it going to be?

If you choose the option to always have the WD icon appear in the
notification area, all you have to do is right click it and chose exit.
 
I do not see that option anywhere. I'm now going to try to uncheck the box
"Use Windows Defender" and then exit the program. Maybe that will stop it
from running in the background unwantedly...

That's what I would expect that you need to do. I would recommend that you
change scheduled scans to be quick scans, rather than full scans, and
schedule them for a time when the machine is on but not in use for gaming,
say.

That should avoid the issue of unexpected scans in the background--and I
hope any impact on gaming. But, if you really want to shut it down, using
that option setting is what's needed, I believe.
