Please help me!!! Both my work and home PC's seem to be infected with
something that, when logged on, continues to transmit large amounts of
information from the machine to an unknown point. Within minutes of
logging on, both computers' transfer icons stay illuminated and within
10 minutes 5,000,000 bits have been transferred on the downstream,
slowing down my connection. My attempts at eliminating spyware are to
no evail. Microsoft security updates likewise have no effect. I have
deleted all files downloaded recently, and reinstalled Windows2000
Professional. All to no avail. Anyone?

Install a sniffer software like EtherReal and trace network traffic.

two things, a good firewall and anti-virus software.... Protect your
computer!!!! I use a Linksys router w/hardware firewall and Norton 2002 AV.
Things have been running good here for over a year (win2k).

My ISP also has this neat deal called Postini. It intercepts spam and
virus's. Sometimes it will intercept a legit email, but I check it once a
week, and once that email address is ok'ed it pass's through ok. It really
works well, I like it.
