I can't open reports

I use access 2002 with shared network. On one computer, I cannot open any
reports. The other computers work very well.
Why?

Is there a chance that the "one computer" has no default Windows printer
defined?

Good luck

The printer setup is OK. I can print through word or excel. Actually, I can't
even open reports in design view. Forms and queries are OK, but I can't print
forms, etc.
Thank you for your help.

I've run into what you are describing, but only when a default printer was
not defined. Good luck!

Jeff,
The default printer was defined by: start-->settings-->printers--> set as
default printer, and works fine with MS words, MS excel.
Is there special setting for Access?
Thank you very much.

No "special" setting, but Access does allow you to define a printer within
the report definition. However, if you can't open the report in design mode
.... <?g?>.

At this point, were it me, I'd probably start re-developing reports!

Hopefully someone else reading the 'group can offer ideas...

Good luck!

Don't you get an error message about printer unavailable
when you try to open a report?

If so, then check a report's design (on another machine) to
see its printer setting (File - Page Setup menu, Page tab).
Most likely, it's a specific printer that has not been
installed on the problem machine.

If the reports are set to the Default Printer, then try
resetting the Default Printer setting on the problem machine
(change it to something else, save, then set it back.

The problem was solved. I choose another printer as default, it works very
well. Then I reinstalled the first printers software, and finally get this
printer worked too.
( I did get a lot of trouble installing the HP2300n printer's drivers)
Thank you very much for your help.

By the way, I still don't understand why my first printer did not work on
access only. It worked on MS word, excel, etc.
also, I don't know why I could not open the reports in design view.
Any way, I am happy because my access works fine now.
Thank you all.

Well no one, aside from the MS developers of Access, can say
for sure. but I think Access is a little too agressive about
integrating a report's design with the capabilities of the
printer that's used to print the report. I guess it's part
of an attempt to be more precise in the WYSIWYG from
designing to printing a report.

When you open a report in design view, the printer features
(along with the machine's video features) are required to
determine how to print (or preview) the report. If the
printer capabilities can not be determined (because the
printer driver is unknown or unavailable), A2002 and A2003
bail out on the operation leaving you in this bewildering
state. You may get a better, faster print operation when
everything is right, but it's not too cool when things are
not right.

Hi

I have had the same problem. But changing from a shared networkprinter to a
local printer solved the problem. Have no idé why.
