i cant import vidoe clips into the computer

I have the camra hooked up to yhe computer but i dont know how to import the movie into the computer, when i press import buttion it has a selection list where i can open files? but I need to know how to get the clips directly on the movie maker so i cand make movis.
 
What brand and model camera are you using? And how are you connecting it to
your computer?

I think a better question would be, are you trying to "capture" or "import"?
because if you're clicking "Import video," The the choose file dialog is
perfectly normal. To get the video off the camera, you want to click
"Capture from a video source."
