Windows Media Player has encountered an unknown error. Error message ID
80040256. It said I have no sound card. I recently installed Windows XP
Home Edition and Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition, since then I
couldn't get any sound at all. Is there anything you can help me with?

Did you upgrade or clean install ?

Download the latest XP specific drivers for your soundcard.

Uninstall any remaining drivers/software and then reboot. XP will find your
card, you then just need to install what you downloaded. Should then work.
