Hi I'm after a little advice about why my windows 7 wont let me use the
option 'copy photos to cd' when in my pictures..... When I first got my
laptop I used to do it all the time, (copy them to a dvd using the 'copy to
cd' option) now it pops up 'Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy
this folder' and I get the option to retry, skip or cancel.....
On my dell laptop it came with media direct which gives me the option to
make dvds with photos and videos on it which works fine, but that takes
forever to load them onto the disc..... and all I want to be doing after I
take about 1gb of pictures is to save it to a dvd disc as a back up.....
Any help with this I would very greatly appreciate!
Thanks you....

Sorry, but there is no such thing as using XP to copy to DVD.
The command "Copy photos to CD" is for copying to CD, not DVD.
If you want to back up your photos and obviously you MUST do so, I suggest
you get out of copying to CD or DVD and simply get a USB2 external drive.
Price for external drive has been coming down. You can get a 120GB external
drive now for about $125.00. Copying your photos to an external drive is a
snap and you can use the external drive to backup your computer. If you can
afford it go for it and forget CD and DVD copying.

I had my digital pictures copy to a cd by Costco. Is it possible to
copy the cd to a dvd format so I can view pictures on my dvd player?

If your DVD player happens to be compatible
with JPEGs you may be able to view the
Picture CD.

To create a VCD or a DVD from still images,
video clips and/or music files....that will play in
a DVD player you need DVD authoring software.

Some possibilities are:

Ulead, Nero, WinDVD, ProShow Gold, Roxio, etc...

The basic steps would be to:

1)...Copy the pictures from your Picture CD to a
folder on your hard drive.

2)...Import the pictures into your authoring software.

3 - A)...Choose to create a VCD. Most DVD players
will play a VCD created on a CD-R.

3 - B)...Choose to create a DVD ...(assuming that
you have a DVD burner and a compatible
DVD blank).

Hi Yves,

Can I assume then that it is impossible to copy files/folders to a blank
DVD+R for example. Why is that? surely DVD, as a recordable medium, is
capable somehow of having files/folders burnt to it?

I have 10Gig of photos and if my house got robbed I'd lose all of it. I
have it backed up to my NAS drive, but they'd steal that as well so I want to
burn to DVD and store at another location. Are you aware of any application
that would help me achieve this?

I don't really want to have to pay $100/150 for a portable storage device to
leave in a safe location.

Thx in advance

Polly:
Windows XP cannot write to a DVD disk of any kind. You need third party
software such as Nero or
Easy CD Creator for this task. Two double layer DVD disks would easily
hold your files.
