Please turn off your Caps Lock key. Connect the camcorder to the PC with a
firewire card. Ensure the camcorder is powered by an external power source
and not by its internal battery. Turn the camcorder on and in VCR mode.
Windows XP should bring up a panel asking what you would like it to do.
Choose the option to Capture using Windows Movie Maker.

Your CAPS LOCK key is stuck. Posting in all caps is the on-line equivalent
of "SHOUTING" and is considered very rude.

Did you load the software that came with the camera? Are you sure the cable
you are using is a known good cable? Is the camera on or off when you
connect it to the firewire port? Have you tested the port with another
firewire device to check that the port is functioning properly?

Lastly, you should also pay attention to punctuation and spelling.

This particular line interested me. Why would this make a difference
in any capturing process? I understand that the battery may start to
run low if it's not on the EPS, but is there something else?

When connected via internal battery, Windows Movie Maker may not be able to
control the camcorder correctly. It's just one more thing that occasionally
causes problems and connecting via external power source at least rules out
one of the problems.

I can't find the mail I had from a chap I was helping, but he mailed me with
details from JVC I think which said that connecting when using the battery
would not enable a connection to the pc.

I'll keep searching for it.
