I can't add a new appointment in Calendar - nothing happens

I have used Outlook for years, but all of the sudden, I can't add an
appointment in Calendar. I can't do it anyway you normally can. It's almost
like it's 'locked' or something. Does anyone know how to 'turn it back on'?

What version of Outlook and how many items are in your Calendar folder?
